Edinburgh Film Festival - Delegate

The Edinburgh International Film Festival is running in June this year, rather than August as it used to.

I'm still not sure what impact this will have on the sort of short films it will show, but the prices look a bit better than last year so hopefully it has made a more definite impact on the financial side of things.

Last year I attended as a delegate, as all Screen Academy students at the time were eligible for a really cheap full delegate pass. It was great fun: I hung around in the delegate centre, I went to Industry and non-industry screenings for free, I watched a few things in the videotheque, and I attended lots of industry events.

This year, I've bought a simple 3 day pass that will give me access to the delegate centre, the industry events, and industry/press screenings on those days. Hopefully this will be enough to satisfy me - I couldn't really justify the cost of the bigger tickets, although I'm sure they're worth the money and I'll regret not splashing out nearer the time!

If you're a student I'd urge you to have a look at the delegate passes on offer. This year ANY film/media student can buy one of two passes - £50 for 5 days or £100 for the whole festival. You don't get access to the videotheque, but I think if the events and films take your liking then it's worth looking into - and the delegate centre is quite cool.

For Industry professionals who aren't students - if you register before the 19th May then there are a few "Early Bird" offers that you can take advantage of.

Go look.

Sharps

"This is an open call by BBC writersroom to find the next generation of writing talent. We want writers with the talent, ideas, insights, and imagination to captivate an audience. We are looking for a fresh, surprising, entertaining take on a universal theme"

BBC Writersroom - Sharps

I'm going to apply to this one. Definitely. I always say that, and never do, but I really will this time. I have a story idea, main characters and a title - what could stop me?
